Substrate preparation
Flatness check, grinding, patching or self-levelling so the finished floor is flat, not just level.
Floors, walls, stairs, patios and pool decks tiled by installers who flatten the substrate first. Porcelain, ceramic, marble, granite and natural stone, set level with joints that line up.
Tile is the one finish in a South Florida home that has to survive salt air, humidity, a slab that moves, and furniture being dragged across it. Whether it stays tight comes down almost entirely to what happens before the first tile is set.
Skyfix Tile and Remodeling LLC installs tile across Fort Lauderdale, Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, and we do the unglamorous prep every time: we check the slab for flatness with a straightedge, grind or self-level the high and low spots, prime where the manufacturer calls for it, and set our starting line off the room's true geometry instead of off a wall that is out of square.
Straight lay, one-third offset for plank tile, 50 percent brick bond, diagonal, herringbone, chevron, basketweave and picture-frame borders. Large-format porcelain up to 24x48 gets back-buttered and lippage-clipped so you do not end up with edges you can feel under bare feet.
Grout joints the same width the whole way across. Cuts at the wall hidden by the baseboard, not the other way round. Full tiles where the eye lands first. Outlets and vents centred in a tile instead of sliced awkwardly. Silicone — not grout — where the floor meets the wall, so the joint can move without cracking. These are small decisions, made a few hundred times per room, and they are what separates a tile job from a tile job you notice.
Pulling up old tile, thinset and mortar bed is dusty, heavy work. We handle tear-out, plastic off the doorways, dust control, hauling and disposal as part of the job. You do not need to rent a dumpster or find a second crew.
Flatness check, grinding, patching or self-levelling so the finished floor is flat, not just level.
Dry lay, centred starting lines, full tiles in the sight lines and cuts hidden where they belong.
Colour-matched grout, sealed natural stone and silicone in every movement and change-of-plane joint.
Old tile, thinset and mortar removed, debris hauled off and the space left broom clean.
The same process on a single bathroom or a whole-house floor. You always know what is happening next.
We come out, measure the real space, check the substrate and give you a written price. Not a guess over the phone.
We dry-lay the pattern, set the starting line and confirm grout colour and trim with you before a single tile is bonded.
Floors protected, dust controlled, cuts made outside. We work full days and tell you the moment anything changes.
We grout, seal, silicone the movement joints and walk the job with you. Nothing is finished until you say it is.
Labour depends on tile size, layout and prep. A straight-lay 12x24 porcelain on a flat, bare slab is at the low end; herringbone, mosaic, stairs, natural stone and floors that need levelling cost more because they take considerably longer to set.
We measure your actual space and give you a written, itemised price for free. That is more useful to you than a range we would have to revise the moment we saw the floor.
Sometimes. If the existing tile is fully bonded, flat and the extra height will not break your door clearances or transitions, tiling over it saves you demolition cost. If any of it is hollow or the floor is uneven, it has to come up — anything set over a loose tile fails with it. We test it on the estimate visit and tell you honestly which one you are looking at.
Normally 24 hours after setting before light foot traffic, and 48 to 72 hours before heavy furniture goes back. Grouting usually happens the day after setting, and sealing after that. We give you the exact schedule for your job so you can plan around it.
We take personal and individual clients — a single bathroom floor, a set of stairs, a backsplash. There is no minimum square footage that gets you turned away.
Yes, and it is common. Bring your own material and we handle installation only. We will tell you before we start if the quantity is short for your layout — you generally want 10 to 15 percent overage, more for diagonal and herringbone.
